Cemetery tour

Biesdorf Cemetery: a walk past the chapel, pond, historic wall tombs and tree-lined paths, with orientation advice for a visit before dusk.

The map below currently marks two entrances for arrival. The landmarks described in this walk do not yet have individual markers here.

Begin in the historic area beside Biesdorfer Friedhofsweg. The brick chapel of 1898 and neighbouring pond provide an identifiable starting point. If a funeral is taking place, keep clear of the chapel entrance.

Continue to the historic family tombs along the cemetery wall. Their varied monuments show how Biesdorf families represented themselves through burial architecture from 1900 onwards.

Follow the tree-lined paths into the other burial sections. The symmetrical layout is a defining feature. Unitas and the war graves can be further destinations, although their precise locations are not marked on this map. Ask the administration for directions and avoid cutting across burial plots.

Use the chapel and pond as landmarks for the return, and finish your visit before dusk.
